The first batch of TOPCon solar cells have been cut into shingle cells and are currently being processed (at F-ISE facilities) into special matrix shingle strings.
In October these will become the first 100 prototypes of solar roof tiles for the project partner Freesuns!

The SPHINX project has reached a key milestone by successfully producing the first batch of shingle matrix strings using TOPCon solar cells. This production was made possible through significant updates to tools and processes at Fraunhofer and M10, enabling the creation of high volumes of special matrix shingle strings. These matrix shingle strings, linked to several of the project’s key objectives, will be distributed to all partners involved in the development of innovative Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions, particularly for the creation of solar roof tiles. Shingle matrix modules, like those produced in this first batch, have the potential to triple energy yield compared to traditional full-cell modules, especially under strong partial shading conditions.
