Get a coffee with the SPHINX gentlemen of Etway

Hi! We are Luca Trainotti, CEO of the company, and Davide Avantaggiato, Project Manager. We have collaborated for many years to bring Etway, an Italian company that operates in the energy and transport area by integrating photovoltaic solutions to serve infrastructures and buildings, to be a recognized leader in the sector. Within the SPHINX project we deal with the creation of the Noise Barrier DEMO.

What was your original motivation to become a researcher/project manager?
Luca: despite my economic and financial background, I have always been interested in technology and the development of innovative solutions. This is why I founded Etway and I am proud to be able to bring our ideas to the service of the SPHINX project.

Davide: I graduated in Energy Engineering to follow my passion for technology, energy efficiency and sustainability. During my years at etway I have developed interest and skills in project management for important projects.

What is your (main) research area today?
Luca and Davide: Our focus is now on consolidating the Italian market for photovoltaic noise barriers and expanding it abroad, making the product more efficient and diversifying. We are dedicating a lot of resources and time to the launch of the SalvaTerra photovoltaic planter, a new concept of vertical photovoltaics serving buildings and infrastructures developed by us.

What is the main focus of your team in SPHINX?
Luca and Davide: In SPHINX project our focus is on the study, design and construction of one of the demonstrators, which will be composed of a Photovoltaic Noise Berrier and a Green PV Barrier made up of several SalvaTerra planters.

Could you describe your favourite moment/satisfaction when working for the project and – more in general – for your organisation?
Luca: undoubtedly one of the best moments of recent years was the news of the Commission’s acceptance of the SPHINX project proposal. A great satisfaction and a great opportunity for us, welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Davide: I had the greatest satisfaction every time a project was carried forward and concluded, bringing with it a wealth of precious experience. In SPHINX I appreciate a lot all the moments spent together with other international partners, experts and authoritative in their sector.

How do you expect SPHINX results will affect your organisation and the PV sector?
Luca and Davide: We expect to get positive feedback following the installation of the demonstrator. It will be very interesting to monitor and test various photovoltaic technologies, including the innovative Matrix Shingle, and we believe that the SPHINX project will give a strong boost to the vertical photovoltaic market serving infrastructure and buildings.

Which partner would you like to nominate next for this coffee break?
I would like to nominate F-ISE.
